This is one of the largest birds known to us:ħm wingspread, 1,5m height and still only a weight of around 75kg. They have a light skeletal system and for their weight powerful but still light muscles, made for just that.Ī bird with the size of a Chocobo even if able to fly (with MUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH bigger wings, we are talking about a 10m+ wingspread) would not be able to carry the weight of a human, especially not on its back (it bones would simply break from something as dense as a human). The 3.0 zones are already dead and lifeless for the most part.īirds are mainly able to fly because they are pretty fragile. In the end, flying mounts were a mistake, and map/world design is going to suffer for it. Make the behemoth fly by riding a giant comet it summons from the ground. Make the elbst fly by pissing a high pressure stream of water. But bears, lions, coeurls, and goobbues flying? Hell. The turtle's explanation for flight is a lazy attempt to hamfist in some Gamera reference, but hey, references are apparently a big selling point. There's a certain amount of effort and detail put into things to make them believable and coherent within the world's setting and lore. It's totally different than "The bear should grow wings lol!" Black chocobos are explained as more muscular and built/bred specifically to fly. They literally explain why chocobos can learn to fly.
